Forklift Motors
A forklift purchase is not to be taken lightly. A forklift is a big capital expense, and a complex machine with a motor strong enough to execute heavy-lifting tasks. The price tag for a forklift ranges from $10,000 to $30,000, comparable to the cost of a small truck. If purchasing a used forklift, be sure to have it inspected for potential mechanical issues.
There are two different kinds of forklift motor: electric or internal combustion. Forklifts with electric motors are normally more expensive than those with internal combustion motors. The motor size must suit the kind of work for which the forklift will be used. A forklift with a large motor costs more compared to a forklift with a smaller motor.
Propane or gasoline powered motors are commonly stronger than electric motor and are capable of lifting heavier weight. The disadvantage is that gas motors tend to develop issues more often compared to electric motors. Depending on the price of gas or propane, gas powered forklifts could be more pricey to operate compared to electric powered forklifts.
Several reputable manufacturers of forklifts are Mitsubishi Caterpillar, Crown Equipment Corp., NACCO Industries and Toyota Industries. Prior to making a decision, research the different manufacturers and the availability of parts. Testimonials, prices and reviews can be found on the World Wide Web.
