Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is situated on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile which is great for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machinery use either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator should move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, since the lift mechanism just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the identical lifting technology as a standard scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly made for surfaces that are uneven. These units also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain without problems.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift utilizes a telescoping beam which raises both diagonally and vertically. This particular model has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform which is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Usually, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machines. These machines provide a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is important to keep in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
