A stock picker, also called an order picker is a machinery that is quite similar to a forklift. It allows the driver to utilize forks to raise a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking some objects, and this feature is something the lift truck does not provide. Normally, order pickers are powered by electricity. These machinery are mostly used in a warehouse setting. Most often they are used for transporting pallets and completing specific jobs in the shelving and stocking department.
The operator of the oder picker sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the machinery backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. Once the operator has positioned the unit in place the blades can be raised to the required level that makes it really convenient for the operator. Like for instance, if the materials required, are situated on a shelf that the operator could not reach, then whole platform can be raised up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
After the order has been picked, the platform is lowered back to its original position. Then the order picker can be driven to its next load. With most models, it is possible to move the order picker while the platform is raised, however, some companies might have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker can also put pallets on a shelf. Stackers and forklifts could be utilized to finish these specific tasks at several companies instead.
