How to Charge a Scissor Lift
There is a great ease when utilizing a scissor lift, since the ease of working and the lift basket's safety gives peace of mind when attempting to perform tasks which could have otherwise needed using the rung of a ladder. The safety risks involved with this particular machine make it the best alternative for performing jobs from heights.
Most scissor lifts are powered electrically by batteries that have been mounted directly onto the machine. These batteries would have to be charged after a long shift or after sitting for extended periods without use. It is an easy job to charge the batteries. This can be done without any specialized tools or equipment and requires no heavy labor.
In order to prepare the scissor lift for charging, position the machine next to an electrical outlet. Make sure you are doing this in a well-ventilated area. Then, in order to prevent another operator from driving away with the lift plugged in, press the emergency shut-off switch. The emergency shut off switch is the big red button situated near the control box or the charger, inside the lift basket. Find the battery charger on the right side of the base of the lift. Usually, units which are older will have the charger mounted on the rear of the lift.
The AC extension cord must next be plugged into the charger. Be sure to charge in a well ventilated area and plug the cord into an electrical outlet. So as to avoid accidental damage from being run over, the length of the electrical cord on the battery charger is intentionally short. This is because if any excess length were to drop out of the battery charger storage area when in use, extreme danger could potentially happen.
